Every year, from the last Saturday of May to 5 June, Rwanda marks Environment Week which ends with the celebration of World Environment Day (WED). WED, a day which falls on 5 June annually, is celebrated worldwide to promote environmental stewardship. On 1 June 2016 at the University of Rwanda-College of Science and Technology-Huye Campus, the Center of Excellence in Biodiversity (CoEB) and Natural Resources Management held a joint Celebration with REMA, UNDP.
This year, the theme of World Environment Day “Join the Race to Increase Resilience to Climate Change.” This theme calls upon Rwandans to get involved in low-carbon and climate resilient development while addressing the vulnerability to climate change that our communities, villages and country currently face. Speaking during the event, The Head of the Biology Department, Prof Donat NSABIMANA, recognized the hard work done by CoEB and indicated the role of humans in increasing climate change resilience. REMA, jointly with UNDP, presented the challenges of climate change today and strategic plans to increase climate change resilience in Rwanda.
